Sessions at The Blasting Room
On June 7th Politic made the short road trip to Fort Collins, Colorado to The Blasting Room to record our 1st studio record. Producer/ Engineer Andrew Berlin took on our project with open arms. Before going to the studio we were trying to refine the sound we had in mind for our first studio record. We had 5 songs in mind and ready to go. However, two days before the first session I wrote a song and presented it to the group. The guys loved it and suggested we try to fit the new song on the already tight budget and schedule. Needless to say we were worried about the time crunch. However, everything turned out great! The new song, we feel, was a great success. With some background vocals from Sean Kennedy (Tickle Me Pink) and a little luck, we finished the full record and the new song on time. "Evicted" was the spontaneous song that lead this record out of the mold of "normal".
We are currently working on the album title and artwork. As of now we are looking at a late summer release. Here is the track list: 1894 Sheridan Hotel Evicted What Have We Done It Borderline Bever Thank you all for your support at encouragement through our development! Kyle -Politic Hometown
This past week 93.3 KTCL announced that i had made the top 10 for their annual holiday contest. the top 10 have been getting airplay this week 2-4 times a day. I was driving to work Thursday morning and my song came on. WOW... that was a weird feeling. Here I have been listening to 93.3's morning show for years EVERY single day and one day BAM my song is on it. That alone was a goal I am very blessed to have had. Still not sure if I am in the top three yet. Even if i don't make top three, much less win, hearing my song on 93.3's regular rotation has been a dream come true...
i'm shooting for the stars. My new band is awesome. Great group of guys that i thank god every day for. Within the past few months i have been going through a lot. Recently being single again after a serious relationship.... broken relationships... spiritual battles and so on. Through all this mess i have been writing a lot to say the least. I cant wait to get some of these new tracks on a cd! Throughout the contest i have not begged all my friends to vote. I really wanted to just let the "listener" make up his/her mind about my song and vote honestly. I know a lot of the bands have huge fans that never listened to any of the other songs and marked poor scores for every other band other than the band they wanted to see win. So, in that case i might have shot myself in the foot. But i wanted an honest answer. Even if i don't win, i consider this moment as the kick off of my career. I cant wait to see what 2009 brings. Thank you all for your support. kyle tomorrow....
2008 has been one of those years that i look back and feel proud of. I finally feel like i got everything done that i wanted to in a year. 2009 however, i feel will blow 2008 out of the water. After all the hard work on Bergen Park i can finally start getting the the fun part of being a musician. Most of the year was spent recording and creating the "buzz". 2009 is when the rubber meets the road. I am really excited about what is going to happen to the EP. With plans to start recording again in january, 2009 could be quite a year. I will hopefully have some "good" news soon. ill keep you posted on the future
kg The Bergen Park StoryIn the fall of 2006 I began to record with a producer out of LA. On this project I managed to snag Michael McKinney to lay bass. Mike has been best known for recording Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Needless to say it was a great experience to work with such a talented man. I never thought I would connect so well with a total stranger. Despite the great chemistry between Mike and I, the chemistry between the "producer" and I was not so positive. The three songs that we recorded cost a little over $10k. By the time the project was completed I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. These three songs were by no means the quality I was looking for. Mike agreed. We felt the producer did a poor job. After much thought, we decided to trash all three songs and the $10k that went with them. This one went in the books as one of the worst experiences of my career. Mike and I are still VERY close friends. Come January of 2007 I made a phone call to one of my good friends Dave Hedin. Dave had started a studio in Evergreen, Colorado with his friend Justin Peacock called The Hook Factory. Dave and I met at church many years earlier when Dave was working for Columbia Records, however, Dave and I never worked together. Until now. Dave and Justin took on my project with open arms. Not only open arms, but open minds. They believed in these three songs so much so that they put their lives on hold to get this project completed. In February of 2007 we began to record what is now Bergen Park. We started with "Wait". This was going to be the "Single". Good hook. Good melody. However, I had no idea how far they would take it. After the pre production, we began to talk about what session players we would hire for the record. For drums, only one person in Denver could fit the bill. Christain Teele. Christain has single handedly changed the way I look at the drums. The man is a walking metronome. For bass, we had a few ideas. Then Dave mentioned that he had a contact with Jimmy Stofer from The Fray. Our schedules worked out and Jimmy was glad to play. His bass tracks brought me back to the Michael McKinney days. Flawless. We laid the bass, drums and acoustic guitars on "Wait" and then "Save Me From You". Once everything was organized we had a problem. The rhythm was too good. A good problem to have. However, we knew it would be near impossible to find a electric guitar player that would give these songs justice. Justin said, "What about Beegle?" Dave rolled his eyes is disbelief that we could actually get Dave Beegle to play on the record. Dave Beegle has been said to be the greatest UNfamous guitar player in the world. After the ridiculous request by Justin, Dave said, "Guys lets just ask him." So we did. He said "YES!" This was a huge step for us. A few weeks we went to Dave Beegles studio and tracked the guitars. It was an amazing experience for us. The sounds that Beegle created was nothing less than a miracle. During the tracking of All I Need, Beegle spent hours just playing along. Drones. Swells. Moods. It was awesome to see and hear. After all the guitars were in it was vocal time. After tracking over the course of a few months it was my time to shine. But my flame burnt out fast. I was having a hard time getting my vocals to stand out in these awesome tracks. The crew became frustrated with me, and I with myself. So, we took a few months off. We came back with fresh ears in Febuary 2008. After Save Me was done it was time to give the vocals another shot. Spirits were high and I nailed it. FINALLY! All I Need was the simplest of the three. Just a guitar with Beegle's drones, bass and some pads. We laid the acoustic guitar tracks and decided to do a scratch vocal track. I was sick. It was late. But the mood was right. That scratch vocal track ended up being the final vocal for the song. One shot. One take. I rather enjoyed All I Need's simplicity. Quite possibly my favorite track on the EP. Now that all the tracks were laid and mixed it was time to find a mastering engineer. Everyone in the industry knows that Brian "Big Bass" Gardner is the best. Working with Dave Matthews Band, Linkin Park, Billy Idol, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Halen to name a few. He's nearly impossible to get. "Impossible" has been a common problem we have been running too... and plowing right through. And Brian Gardner was no different. He took this project immediately and mastered it within a week. The sounds in these three songs have been something that has taken me in and out of reality. With Dave and Justins help I was able to get my thoughts out and on record store shelves. A special thanks to them for putting in the time and effort to make the Bergen Park EP a success. all for now, kg For more information on Dave Hedin and Justin Peacock's studio and production assistance please visit: www.thehookfactory.com Day one
